Staying Calm

Adapted from the book
How Great is Our God
by Louie Giglio

Good morning!

Today’s Scripture is:

“A foolish person loses his temper,
but a wise person controls his anger.”

Proverbs 29 :11 ICB

Today let’s talk about how God designed our bodies to control our temperature. If we get too hot from being outside in the heat or working out, we can overheat, and it can make us sick.

But God’s brilliant design made 2 to 4 million sweat glands that produce clear liquid that cools our bodies as it evaporates. We call that sweating. The Bible talks about over heating also but is referring to our tempers.

Our bodies aren’t the only thing that can get too hot. It’s easy to let little things make us angry. Like spilling your drink, or dropping your pencil for the 10th time, or not getting your way. But anger doesn’t fix the problem, it makes it worse. So, what can we do to cool off?

Take a deep breath and say a little prayer. Ask God to cool your temper and show you what to do next. Like cleaning up your drink or picking up your pencil again. Learning to let God help you cool during the little stuff makes it easier to keep your cool when the big things come around.

Let’s Pray Together

Father, When little things and big things make us angry and want to lose our temper, help us not to sweat it. Remind us to ask You what to do instead. We love You. Amen.

Today’s Question:

The next time you start to get heated up or angry,
what can you do to cool down?
