Consequences

Adapted from the book
How Great is Our God
by Louie Giglio

Good morning!

Today’s Scripture is:

“Now that I belong to Christ, I am right with God.”
Philippians 3:9 (ICB)

Today, let’s talk about how God created the atmosphere to surround the earth and protect it from the harmful rays of the sun.

The sun is so strong and bright that without proper protection, it could burn up the earth.

That’s why your mom and dad put sunscreen on you when you are outside, especially in places closer to the sun than where you live.

Where you live is farther from the sun, which is why it’s colder in Alaska than in Texas. I remember one time you three flew to Texas, and when Lucy walked outside, she stopped, turned to me, and said, “I feel like I’m in an oven!” Lucy, do you remember that?

Back to God’s protection for the earth—He created the atmosphere with something called ozone. It’s a tiny gas molecule with a huge job. Ozone hangs out in the Earth’s outer atmosphere, wrapping around the planet like a great big shield.

Just as the ozone layer protects the earth, the goodness of Jesus wraps around you and protects you from sin. Sin burns up our relationship with God, but God sent Jesus to protect us from the consequences of our sin. When Jesus died for our sin, He took the punishment we deserved so we could be right with God.

Let’s Pray Together

Jesus, Wherever we go and whatever we do, we know You are always watching over us and protecting us. Thank You for being our strength and our shield. We love You. Amen.

Today’s Question:

How does Jesus protect you in your everyday life?
