Bright Star
Adapted from the book
How Great is Our God
by Louie Giglio
Good morning!
Today’s Scripture is:
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.”
Colossians 1:15 (NLT)
Today let’s talk about a Star You Can See… and Power You Can’t
About 800 light-years away from Earth is a brilliant star named Rigel.
Rigel is what scientists call a blue supergiant:
Blue because it burns super hot—about twice as hot as our sun.
Supergiant because it’s huge—around 73 times bigger than the sun.
And it’s bright—like 40,000 times brighter than our sun!
Rigel shines so brightly that you can see it from Earth, even though it’s very far away.
But here’s a cool thing: the real power of that star is invisible.
We can see the light, but we can’t see everything happening inside it.
That’s kind of like God.
The Bible tells us that no one has ever seen God face to face.
In Exodus 33:20, God said:
“You cannot see my face. No one can see me and stay alive.”
Sometimes God showed Himself in special ways:
a burning bush
a cloud
an angel
or even as a man for a moment
God even let Moses see just His back as He passed by.
God is real and powerful… but invisible.
So how can we know what God is really like?
That’s where Jesus comes in.
Colossians 1:15 says:
Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God.
In other words:
If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.
Jesus is God in a body. He came to Earth to show us God’s heart.
The Bible doesn’t tell us things like the color of Jesus’ eyes.
Instead, it tells us the important stuff:
how kind He was
how He helped people
how He loved the broken and lonely
how He obeyed His Father
how He forgave
how He loved us enough to save us
His character shines through even brighter than Rigel.
Let’s Pray Together
Father God, open our hearts to Your Word so we can see what You’re really like. And please help us grow to look more like You every day. We love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Today, try this simple idea:
Ask yourself: “What would Jesus do right now?”
Then do the thing that looks like Him:
kindness
honesty
courage
forgiveness
helping someone who needs it
When you live like Jesus, people get to see a little picture of God through you.
