Jehovah Shammah
Adapted from the book
I Am: 40 Bible Stories, Devotions, and Prayers About the Names of God
by Diane Stortz
Good morning, grandchildren!
I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!
Today’s Scripture is:
“The name of the city will be ‘The Lord is there.’”
—Ezekiel 48:35 (NLT)
Today we’re talking about: Jehovah Shammah (The Lord is There). Jehovah Shammah (jeh-HO-vuh SHAH-mah) means “The Lord is There.” Can you say that? Jehovah Shammah!
A quick picture to help In Genesis 28, God called Jacob—who was Abraham’s grandson—to take a long journey to find a wife. Because the trip was long, Jacob had to stop and sleep on the ground that night.
While he slept, Jacob had a dream. He saw a giant ladder reaching from the earth all the way up to heaven! Angels were going up and down the ladder, moving between heaven and earth.
When Jacob woke up, he realized something important: Even though he was on a long trip, and even though no other people were with him… God was with him. Jacob wasn’t alone at all.
The best part That is a wonderful reminder for us, too. No matter where you go today—school, home, the car, the playground—God is there. You can talk to Him anytime. He loves to hear your voice.
Whenever you feel worried, lonely, or unsure today, pause and whisper, “The Lord is there.” Then talk to Him. He’s listening.
Let’s Pray Together
Father,
Thank You for always being with us. We are never alone. Thank You for loving us and caring for us—even when we can’t see You with our physical eyes, we can see You with the eyes of our hearts.
We love You. Amen.
