El Shaddai
Adapted from the book
I Am: 40 Bible Stories, Devotions, and Prayers About the Names of God
by Diane Stortz
Good morning, grandchildren!
I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!
Today’s Scripture is:
“I am All-Powerful. Obey Me and do what is right.”
—Genesis 17:1 (ICB)
Today we’re talking about: El Shaddai (God ALL-Powerful). Let’s talk about one of the wonderful names of God: El Shaddai (El Shad-EYE). This name means God is All-Powerful!
A quick picture to help In the book of Genesis, there was a man named Abraham. He and his wife Sarah didn’t have any children, and they really wanted a baby. One day, God came to Abraham and told him that this time next year, Sarah would have a baby boy.
This sounded impossible because they were very old. BUT Abraham chose to believe that God would do exactly what He said—because God always tells the truth. And sure enough, Abraham and Sarah had a baby boy… just like God promised.
Why? Because God is All-Powerful. He can do anything He chooses to do!
The best part We humans aren’t all-powerful. Have you ever wanted to run faster, jump higher, or lift something heavy but you just couldn’t do it? That’s because we have limits. But God doesn’t.
Today, think of something in your life that feels too hard—maybe a school subject, a situation with a friend, or something that worries you. Remember: you don’t have to be all-powerful… because God already is. You can ask Him to help you with anything.
Let’s Pray Together
Father,
Nothing is too hard for You. Thank You that we can trust You because You are All-Powerful.
We love You. Amen.
