Good morning, grandchildren!
I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!
Today’s Scripture is:
“Moses built an altar and called the name of it ‘The Lord is my Banner.’”
—Exodus 17:15
Today we’re talking about: The Lord is My Banner: Jehovah Nissi. Today’s Bible story is about Joshua. After Moses died, Joshua led God’s people.
A quick picture to help: God gave Joshua a very unusual plan to defeat their enemy and take over a city. The plan was for seven religious leaders, called the priests, to march in a parade around the outside walls of the city. They were followed by the Ark of the Covenant, which represented God’s presence.
God told them to do this for seven days. On the seventh day, all the people would shout, and the priests would blow their horns.
Even though the plan didn’t make much sense to the people, they obeyed. Sure enough, when God’s people did exactly what He said, God supernaturally caused the city walls to fall, and they were given the city to live in.
The best part: Sometimes God asks us to do things that we don’t fully understand. But when we trust Him and follow His instructions, He leads us, and things turn out for the best.
Just like God’s people followed His unusual plan, we can trust Him in our lives, even when things don’t make sense. When we follow God’s instructions—through His Word, prayer, and listening to His guidance—we show that He is our banner, and He leads and protects us.
Let’s Pray Together
Father,
Thank You for always having a good plan for us, Your people. Just like a parade banner tells others who the people are, the banner over us shows that we are Your people when we depend on You and follow You.
We love You. Amen.
