Good morning, grandchildren!
I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!
Today’s Scripture is:
“The Lord is our help and our shield.”
—Psalm 33:20 (ICB)
Today we’re talking about: Jehovah Maginni (The Lord is my shield). Today we’re learning a special name of God: Jehovah Maginni (muh-GIN-ee). It means “The Lord is my shield.”
A quick picture to help: Do you remember the story of Daniel? In Daniel chapter 6, Daniel loved God with his whole heart. But some men did not love God, and they were jealous of Daniel. They wanted to get rid of him, so they tricked the king into making a law: Anyone who prayed to the real God would be thrown into a den of hungry lions.
Daniel kept praying anyway, because he trusted God more than he feared lions.
So Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den… but God put His shield of protection around Daniel. God sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions, and they didn’t hurt him at all!
When the king saw that Daniel was safe, he knew that Daniel’s God was the one true God. The king told the whole nation to honor and worship Jehovah—the God who saves and protects.
The best part: Look how amazing God is! A plan meant to harm Daniel ended up showing everyone that God is our shield.
Sometimes we don’t face real lions, but we do face scary things—like being alone, trying something new, or not knowing what will happen next. When you feel afraid, remember that God is with you just like He was with Daniel. You can whisper a prayer and say, “God, be my shield right now.”
He loves protecting His children, and He will give you the courage you need.
Let’s Pray Together
Father,
Thank You for being our shield and our protector every day. Help us recognize Your work in our lives. Thank You for watching over us.
We love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
