God’s Guidance

Adapted from the book How Great is Our God by Louie Giglio

Good morning!

Joke for the Day:
What do clouds wear under their raincoats?
Thunderwear! ✨

Today’s Scripture is:
“The Lord showed the Israelites the way.
During the day he went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud.
During the night the Lord was in a pillar of fire to give them light.”

Exodus 13:21 (ICB)

God’s Guidance

If you spend a little time watching the sky, you’ll notice that clouds don’t all look the same. Some are light and feathery, some are thick and gray, and others are big and fluffy like giant scoops of cotton candy.

Meteorologists study clouds because their shapes can give clues about the kind of weather that might be coming.

  • Thin, streaky clouds high in the sky are called cirrus clouds, and they often mean a change in the weather could be on the way.

  • When the sky fills with a blanket of gray stratus clouds, rain or snow might not be far behind.

  • And those big, puffy cumulus clouds that look like floating marshmallows usually show up on bright, pleasant days.

So if you want a hint about tomorrow’s weather, sometimes all you have to do is look up.

Long ago, God’s people looked up at the sky for a very different reason. After the Israelites left Egypt, they were traveling through a huge desert and didn’t know which way to go.

God took care of that problem. During the daytime, He placed a tall pillar of cloud in front of them so they would know the right path. When night came, that cloud turned into a glowing pillar of fire so they could still see the way and know that God was with them.

There may be moments in your life when you feel unsure about what to do or which direction to take. When that happens, remember that you can look to God for help. He promises to guide His children.

God may not lead you with a giant cloud in the sky like He did for the Israelites, but He will still guide you. Often He shows us the way little by little—one step at a time. As we trust Him, He keeps leading us forward, all the way until the day we are finally home with Him in heaven.

Let’s Pray Together

Father God, when we look up and see the clouds, help us remember to look to You for guidance. Thank You for leading us step by step. We love You. Amen.

Question for the day:

When you feel unsure about what to do, how can you ask God to help guide you? ✨
