Big Mess

Adapted from the book How Great is Our God by Louie Giglio

Good morning!

Joke for the Day:
What do you call a fish that practices medicine?
A sturgeon!

Today’s Scripture is:
“If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. We can trust God. He does what is right.
He will make us clean from all the wrongs we have done.”

1 John 1:9 (ICB)

Big Mess

Out in the Pacific Ocean there is a huge area filled with floating trash called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It sits between Hawaii and Japan where ocean currents spin around in a giant circle and pull floating things together.

People sometimes imagine it as a giant island of trash, but it’s really more like a thick soup of garbage in the water. It’s made up of things like fishing nets, plastic bottles, grocery bags, and tiny pieces of broken plastic.

Scientists say this floating mess may be as large as the state of Texas, or even bigger.

Sadly, this trash can be very harmful to sea life. Birds, turtles, and fish sometimes get trapped in it. Other animals mistake the plastic for food. Each year many sea creatures are hurt or die because of this pollution.

What’s surprising is that this enormous mess didn’t start all at once. It formed because many small pieces of trash ended up in the ocean over time. One bottle here. One bag there. Little things slowly became a very big problem.

Sin can grow the same way in our lives. One small lie, one act of disobedience, or one wrong choice may seem tiny at first. But if we keep making those small wrong choices, they can pile up and create a big mess in our hearts.

Thankfully, God gives us a wonderful promise. When we admit our sins to Him, He forgives us and cleans our hearts. God loves to give us a fresh start.

The best way to avoid a big mess is to make good choices and stay away from sin whenever we can.

Let’s Pray Together

Father God, help us make good choices each day. When we are tempted to do something wrong, remind us to do what is right. Thank You for forgiving us and making our hearts clean when we confess our sins. We love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Question for the day:

What is one small good choice you can make today that will honor God?✨
