True Treasure
Adapted from the book How Great is Our God by Louie Giglio
Good morning!
Today’s Scripture is:
“Store your treasure in heaven… The treasure of heaven cannot be destroyed by moths or rust. Thieves cannot break in and steal that treasure. Your heart will be where your treasure is.”
Gospel of Matthew 6:20–21 (ICB)
True Treasure
Did you know squirrels can be sneaky little thieves? In some neighborhoods, squirrels will watch each other bury nuts and then sneak back to steal them! Some squirrels may even pretend to bury a nut, keeping it safely in their mouths instead. They might do this several times to trick any spies. All this effort is because they rely on their stash to survive the cold winter, when food is hard to find.
We all have treasures we care about, too. Sometimes it’s toys, gadgets, or even money. If we focus too much on protecting these things, we can become anxious, selfish, or even a little “squirrely,” always worrying about our stuff.
Jesus has a better plan: store treasure in heaven!
What does that mean? It means using your time, gifts, and kindness to show God’s love. Be generous. Share a snack. Help a friend. Include someone who feels left out. Tell others about Jesus. Every act of love and goodness builds treasure that lasts forever—treasure no one can steal, rust, or destroy.
The more you give for God’s kingdom, the richer your heart becomes. That’s the kind of treasure that never runs out!
Let’s Pray Together
Father God, thank You for giving us everything we need. Help us to share our time, our love, and our things with others. Teach us to focus on treasures that last forever—treasures in heaven. We love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
