Good morning, grandchildren!

I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!

Today’s Scripture is:

“In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:1:

The Apostle John wrote a book of the Bible called John. The very first thing he said was about the Word. That can be a little confusing—how can words be a person? We hear words all the time—we talk to our family and friends, and we read them in books.

Here’s a story to help explain it. There were two sisters named Mary and Martha. One day, they invited Jesus to their home. Martha was busy preparing a meal, but Mary sat close to Jesus and listened carefully as He taught about God.

Martha got upset. She thought Mary should be helping in the kitchen instead of just sitting there. So, she complained to Jesus.

Jesus said something surprising: “Mary has chosen the better thing, and it will not be taken away from her.”

What was Mary doing, that was so important? She was listening to the Words Jesus was speaking—the WORD.

When we read the Bible or listen to Jesus’ teachings, we are listening to the WORD—God speaking to our hearts. Listening to Jesus is one of the most important things we can ever do.

Let’s Pray Together

Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to teach us about You. Thank You for all Your Words in

the Bible. Help us to always listen to Jesus, the WORD, and obey what He teaches. We love

You! Amen.

Today’s Question:

What is one way you can listen to Jesus, the Word, today?
