Powerful God

Adapted from the book
How Great is Our God
by Louie Giglio

Good morning!

Today I’m going to read a scripture in the Bible that goes along with our subject.

Listen for the word POWER:

Yours, O Lord is the greatness, the power,
the glory, the victory, and the majesty.
Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours.

1 Chronicles 29:11

What do you think of when you hear the word power? Maybe someone who has power over someone else like a judge or a president. Perhaps you think of a powerful sports figure who can lift heavy weights. What about electrical power to run your car or air conditioner.

Here’s something interesting. In physics, power describes how fast energy is used. Referring to cars, we measure the power of the engine to move the car as Horsepower.

This term came from the 1700s. A man named Issac Watt wanted to compare the power of his steam engine to the power of the farmer’s horse. The measurement he came up with was called horsepower and it measured the amount of power needed to move 550 pounds one foot in one second. One horsepower.

800 to 1000 horsepower is what a racecar usually has today!

But truly the most powerful force in the universe is God and His power. There is no limit to His power. He has the power to give us His Holy Spirit to live inside us and guide us each day. By His power we are given eternal life in heaven with Him. Now that’s some power we can count on!

Let’s Pray Together

Father,

We know that no one if more powerful than You are. Through Your power, You provided a way for us to be forgiven of our sins and live with You in heaven forever. Thank You for giving us the power to obey You each day. We love You! Amen.

Today’s Question:

What do you need God’s power to help you do today?
