The 23rd Psalm (Part 5)

Good morning!
Joke of the Day:
What did the sheep say when dinner was ready?
“Ewe first? No, the Good Shepherd goes first!”
Let’s continue on with looking at the very famous 23rd Psalm.
Today’s Scripture is
The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for His namesake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil
for You are with me.
Your rod and Your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil
and my cup overflows.
Surely, goodness, and mercy will follow me
all the days of my life
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
—Psalm 23
These words paint a picture of a wonderful banquet prepared by God. Imagine a huge table filled with all your favorite foods and drinks. Everything has been carefully prepared just for you. But there’s something surprising. The table is set in the presence of your enemies—people who want to hurt or stop you. How could anyone enjoy a feast with enemies nearby?
The answer is simple: because God is there. The Good Shepherd is protecting His child. There is no need to be afraid. Instead of worrying, the person at the table can enjoy God’s goodness and care.
Then God anoints the person’s head with oil. In Bible times, this was a way to show honor, welcome, blessing, and care. It’s as if God is saying, “You are My special guest.” Finally, the cup overflows, showing that God doesn’t just give enough—He gives more than enough!
The message for you and me is this: God’s plans are far better than anything we could imagine.
When we trust Him, He takes care of us, blesses us, and gives us exactly what we need—even when life feels scary.
Let’s Pray Together
Father, Your plans for us are so much better than we can imagine. Help us to trust You every day, even when we face difficult situations. Thank You for loving us, protecting us, and blessing us with more than we deserve. We love You. Amen.
