Good morning, grandchildren!

I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!

Today’s Scripture is:

“The Lord is my shepherd.”
—Psalm 23:1

Today we’re talking about: The Lord Is My Shepherd — Jehovah Roi (jeh-HO-vuh Roe-EE). What do shepherds do? They take care of sheep. They watch over them, lead them to food and water, protect them from danger, and make sure none of them wander off.

A quick picture to help: Sheep aren’t known for being very smart. They like to stay in a group and often do whatever the other sheep are doing—whether it’s a good idea or not!

Sometimes people can be like sheep too. We may see other kids doing something and feel tempted to do the same thing, even when we know in our hearts it’s not right. Have you ever felt that way? I have, too.

The best part: That’s why it’s so important to remember that God is our Shepherd. He always knows what is best for us. Because He loves us so much, God sent the Holy Spirit to help guide us. The Holy Spirit gently whispers in our hearts and minds what is right—reminding us of what Jesus teaches us to do.

Jesus teaches us to be loving, kind, compassionate, forgiving, and caring. When we listen and obey, God leads us away from trouble and toward what is best for us—just like a good shepherd leading his sheep. We can trust God to guide us, because Jehovah Roi is our Good Shepherd and He will never leave us.

Let’s Pray Together

Father,

Thank You for being our Shepherd and always taking such good care of us. Help us hear Your voice today and give us hearts that want to obey You.

We love You. Amen.

Today’s Question:

Can you think of a time today when you might need to listen to God instead of following the crowd? What could you do to follow your Shepherd instead?
