Honesty

Good morning, grandchildren!

I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!

“The Lord hates those who tell lies,
but He is pleased with those who do what they promise.”

— Proverbs 12:22 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

What does it mean to be honest?

The dictionary says honesty is “the quality of being honest.” Another way to say it is always telling the truth.

God wants us to always tell the truth. As Christians, we don’t lie.

The Bible tells us to “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15). That means we are to do two things at once. First, we must always speak honestly. But just as importantly, our words must be loving.

Think about it this way: To tell someone that they have an ugly, big nose might be honest—but it certainly isn’t loving!

Sometimes we are tempted to lie instead of obeying God, especially when we think lying will benefit us. But when we do, that little voice of God inside us tells us we shouldn’t.

If we keep ignoring God’s still, small voice, it becomes harder and harder to hear Him. We need to ask God to turn that volume up today so we can hear Him clearly and obey Him fully.

Let’s Pray Together

Father, thank You for loving us and living inside us. We ask You to turn up the volume of Your voice so we can clearly hear You when You speak to us today. Help us resist the temptation to lie, because when we do, it disappoints You. We love You, Jesus! Amen.

Today’s Question

Why do you think it’s important to always tell the truth, even when it’s hard?
