Destiny

Good morning, grandchildren!

I wish I were with you right now so I could give you a
great big hug and tell you how much I love you!

“And after the earthquake came a fire,
but the Lord was not in the fire.
And after the fire came a still small voice.”
1 Kings 19:12 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

Recently we learned that God made a plan for each of us before we were even born. He placed our spirit inside our bodies and gave us a special plan for our lives—what we might do when we grow up and how we can serve Him.

But after we were born, we got very busy learning all kinds of new things: how to eat, crawl, walk, and talk. Sometimes we forget those special things God whispered to our hearts about His plan for us. Then, one day, we start to feel something inside—maybe a dream about being a teacher, or a scientist, or an artist, or something else that makes us feel excited and full of purpose. That little tug in your heart? That can be God reminding you of the plan He made for you. That’s what “destiny” means: God’s good plan for your life. And everyone has one.

God loves to talk to us and remind us of His plan every day. That’s why He teaches us to pray—so we can talk to Him and also listen. When we pray, it’s not only us speaking. God speaks to our hearts too.

The Bible says He speaks in a still small voice. That means He doesn’t usually shout or yell. Instead, we have to quiet our hearts and listen closely. When we do, God might place a gentle thought in our mind or help us imagine something good He wants us to know. The writers of the Bible listened to God this way. They wrote down what He told them and shared it with others.

And guess what? Kids can hear God too. Sometimes kids hear Him even better than adults because their hearts are open and full of faith. That’s why Jesus said we should have childlike faith—simple, trusting, and ready to listen.

Let’s pray together:

Jesus,

Thank You for wanting to talk to us every day.
Thank You for speaking to us in a still small voice.
Please help us listen closely and recognize when You’re talking to our hearts.
We love You and want to follow Your plan for our lives. Amen.

Our question today is:

Can you remember a time you felt God gently guiding your heart or giving you an idea to do something good? What happened?.
